CEDOC-UM6P-ASARI-Reestablishing the Hassania Goat Breed via Genetics and Reproductive Biotechnologie
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is an international higher education institution, established to provide research and innovation at the service of education and development for Morocco and the African continent. It has a state-of-the-art campus at the heart of the Green City of Benguerir, near Marrakesh. The African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute (ASARI) is a component of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). It is located in Laayoune City and constitutes a structure of practical-based research with a vision of solving real Local, Regional, and African agriculture challenges leveraging up-to-date science and technology.
Context:
The project aims to:
â— Estimate the genetic pool of El Hassania goats in southern Morocco.
â— Identify high genetic merit males for semen quality studies.
â— Import high-quality embryos through collaboration with ASARI-UM6P and Las Palmas University.
â— Utilize embryo transfer and artificial insemination to enhance genetic gain in 1000 goats.
Research Objectives:
â— Conduct genetic screening of El Hassania goats.
â— Study the genetic diversity and semen quality of selected males.
â— Collaborate on the production of high-quality embryos.
â— Implement and monitor artificial insemination and embryo transfer techniques.
â— Contribute to the establishment of a genetic selection scheme and startup initiatives.
â— Analyze genomic data and apply molecular biology techniques to enhance project outcomes.
Admission Criteria:
â— Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Genetics/Genomics, Bioinformatics, be an Engineer in Animal Production, or possess an equivalent qualification.
â— Proficiency in molecular biology techniques.
â— Strong analytical and laboratory skills.
â— Demonstrated experience in the analysis of genomic massive data.
â— Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment.
â— Fluency in English
