GENERAL DESCRIPTION DEPARTMENT

The Regional SEI function reports to the Operations department who is central to Driscoll’s mission of delivering delightful berries that align with our customers' expectations and sustainability goals. It oversees regional operations, fosters grower development, and ensures compliance with regulatory and brand standards.

 

The Regional SEI function is dedicated to:

Supporting growers in improving agricultural practices, worker welfare, and sustainability.

Driving innovation to create sustainable and resilient growing models.

Partnering with growers and communities to build a socially responsible and environmentally conscious supply chain.

 

By balancing grower support, compliance, and sustainability, the department ensures Driscoll’s continued growth and alignment with its mission and values.

 

GOAL OF THE POSITION / KEY RESULTS AREA

The SEI Coordinator North serves as a vital link between growers and Driscoll’s social and environmental objectives. The role emphasizes:

Enhancing Grower Support:

Strengthening growers' capabilities to meet compliance standards and sustainability goals.

Offering technical and educational support tailored to growers’ operational challenges.

Ensuring Social Compliance:

Upholding labor laws and ethical practices to protect workers' rights and improve working conditions.

Advancing Environmental Sustainability and Community Development:

Promoting practices that preserve ecosystems, reduce environmental impact, and foster positive relationships with local communities.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Grower Support:

  • Conduct frequent on-site visits to growers, establishing trusted relationships and providing actionable advice on enhancing agricultural practices, worker welfare, and compliance with Driscoll’s standards.
  • Develop and deliver targeted training sessions on best practices for worker welfare, environmental stewardship, and sustainable farming techniques.
  • Assist growers in preparing for external and internal audits, ensuring they meet required social and environmental compliance standards.
  • Provide regular updates on evolving regulatory requirements, customer compliance expectations, and Driscoll’s strategies for sustainability and social responsibility.
  • Act as a resource for growers, helping them address challenges in implementing new policies and practices.

Social compliance:

  • Monitor growers’ adherence to Driscoll’s Labor Standards and Moroccan labor laws, covering fair wages, legal working age, and health and safety requirements.
  • Ensure growers maintain appropriate working conditions, including transportation, workplace safety, and access to health benefits.
  • Identify gaps in compliance and work with growers to develop corrective action plans, ensuring timely resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate discussions and awareness campaigns among growers to emphasize the importance of fair labor practices and ethical treatment of workers.

Environmental and local community impact:

Promote environmentally friendly agricultural practices, focusing on water conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable land use.

Support growers in integrating mandatory EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements and using these as benchmarks to improve their sustainability performance.

Analyze data and conduct risk assessments to identify areas for improvement in growers' environmental impact, providing tailored feedback and recommendations.

Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and community organizations to launch initiatives that enhance local development, such as education programs, infrastructure projects, and environmental restoration activities.

Develop sustainability programs that go beyond compliance, aiming for measurable positive impacts on biodiversity, carbon footprint reduction, and resource conservation.

Represent Driscoll’s at stakeholder meetings, including customer visits, grower forums, and government discussions, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Training

Master’s degree in Social Studies, Environmental Studies, Agricultural Sciences, or related fields.

Strong background in agriculture or a related field to effectively navigate the industry landscape.

 

Experience

At least 3 years of experience in an international environment, ideally within the fruit or agricultural sector.

Demonstrated expertise in social and environmental auditing, compliance, and project implementation.

Comprehensive knowledge of Moroccan labor laws, particularly in the agricultural context.

Proven ability to design and execute training programs focused on social, environmental, and operational topics.

 

Skills & Behaviors

Fluency in English and French is required; Spanish is an added advantage.

Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills with a focus on problem-solving.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and ability to leverage digital tools for data analysis and reporting.

Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including growers, field workers, and external partners.

Self-motivated, pragmatic, and capable of working independently under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 20% of the time).

Valid driver’s license and passport.

Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends during peak planting seasons.
